Optimist Youth Homes and the Wong Foundation

The Model of an Enduring, Working Partnership

We at the Wong Foundation are realists. We adhere, in all we do, to the bedrock conviction that continuous and sustainable positive change doesn’t happen without tireless effort. It is also rooted in the enduring belief that good can and will prevail. Not through thoughts and prayers alone. But through clarity of purpose and hard work in the fulfillment of practical programs. That is the pathway to redemption in the real world. That is our creed.

As such, we partner with and support other institutions that share in our intense devotion to practical action, that extend our reach, that magnify our impact in making real change, especially for making tangible, measurable progress when it comes to tackling the hard things. Like saving lives and restoring hope to our most vulnerable children that hope has left behind. Our mission.

OPTIMIST YOUTH HOMES AND FAMILY SERVICES is such an institution. They don’t wait for miracles. They make them. Caring for, rescuing and reviving the souls, literally of generations of disadvantaged and most at risk children here in Los Angeles since 1909. Surmounting not just one but two global pandemics. That’s a long stretch filled with successes and setbacks, all the while actively learning and adapting and continuously strengthening their positive impact through over a century of small and not so small miracles made real through major efforts embodied in action-oriented, high-impact, imaginative yet practical campaigns to save children.

That is why we have been so committed to them over the expanse of this long year of dislocation. Equipping them with essential material in these high risk times that threaten high risk populations’ safety disproportionately – from face shields to gloves to masks of all sizes for all ages. As well as catering to the softer side, supplying what comfort we can. Loads of stuffed animals to supply some succor. Something to cuddle. To reassure. With a more expansive commitment in store next year.

That is why I am more than honored to have been asked to join their esteemed Advisory Board and why I am beyond proud to have them as a full partner with us at the Wong Foundation to join hands to do the hard work. Bringing out the best in us in the here and now.

Timely in this season of renewal.

Happy New Spring everyone!
