04 May In Loving Memory on this Second Spring
May marks the anniversary of Sharon’s passing from this world. It serves as a reminder of the magnitude of the loss we feel and always will for all of us that knew her and loved her — her family and all those she befriended and inspired throughout her awe-inspiring and all too short time with us.
It also serves as a celebration of her life, a moment in the year reserved to reset our sights and to restore our resolve to work tirelessly in the fulfillment of the cause that was of central importance to her, to protect and to lift up the most vulnerable and at risk within our human family, orphans and other children at highest risk and in most dire conditions around the world and here at home.
This year’s anniversary, this second spring marking her departure, coincides with a historically hard time in the world in which we live as a great sickness has fallen upon the world. A plague in our time and maybe for our time, making our work – the fulfillment of her mission – all that more critical.
There is so much that needs to be done. Too much for any one Foundation. Yet we do what we can. Not to save the world. That is beyond us. But to save one child. And then another. And another. And, at the same time, to plan for what comes after in this new world of ours, maybe a better world where the children we save will save us, will teach us and show us the way, when we are well again as a world, when we are more connected to each other as one family on Mother Earth when this is over. This is the season of renewal after all.
And we do what we can. With our limited capacity to see and to know. To do the best we can. A moment at a time. Because we just see the fragments. Where-as our Sharon sees the totality. The eternal. Because she is the big picture. Because she is love. Our love never-ending.
Two years. Two springs. Three little girls. Our little girls. Who will never forget her. Now we add to that hundreds more and then thousands more in time – little girls and little boys — who have never met her, who will never forget her. Because of the work we do in her name. The manifestation of her will.
To this calling we our bound.
In loving memory,
Dennis
